Habibi, the revolutions of love (September 27, 2022 - February 19, 2023)

From September 2022, the Institut du Monde Arabe has been organizing an exhibition dedicated to the contemporary creation of LGBT+ and Queer identities in the Arab world.

As an ode to plural beauty and love, this event brings together the works of twenty emerging and established artists who creatively question the representation of identities and explore the territories linked to intimacy, the relationship to the body, but also their relationship to public space.

Through an wide variety of media (installations, paintings, photographs, comics, videos), these artists offer a message of tolerance and universalism.

Throughout the exhibition, the Institut du Monde Arabe will offer exclusive events around the queer universe through performances, screenings of short and full-length films, conferences and workshops.

Baya, Women in their Garden. Works and archives, 1944-1998 (November 8, 2022 - March 26, 2023)

In November 2022, the exhibition "Baya, Women in their Garden" will pay tribute to the most famous Algerian artist of the 20th century.

For the first time in a Parisian museum, this retrospective will bring together a wide variety of Baya's work over her entire creative period, from 1944 to her death in 1998. Through her joyful and colorful paintings, the enigmatic bestiary of her ceramics, but also her magnificent painted tales and family correspondence, the exhibition will highlight the artistic evolution and intimate journey of this prolific artist, who was propelled to the top of the notoriety at the age of 16.

Throughout the exhibition, the Arab World Institute will offer meetings and creative workshops to share the world and story of this incredible artist with all audiences.

Parfums d’Orient (October 2023 - January 2024)

In the fall of 2023, the IMA will devote an exceptional exhibition to one of the treasures of Eastern culture: perfume. An immersive exhibition will plunge visitors into the thousand-year-old history of perfume in the Arab world, from the Arabian trade routes where incense, amber, oud, and spices were transported, to the rituals that have spanned the centuries. 

In addition to a journey through contemporary works and art objects of great beauty, the exhibition will be based on a completely new olfactory device.

From musk to orange blossom, from the souk to the hammam, this unique event will invite the public to experience a real journey of the senses in the East, from the Maghreb to the Mashreq, through the Arabian Peninsula.

In parallel to the exhibition, a rich cultural program and educational workshops will honor the know-how, olfactory innovation and history of perfume.

The Arab avant-garde and Picasso (March 2024 - July 2024)

The exhibition will present the fruitful links that existed between major artists of the Arab world and the art and commitment of Pablo Picasso, from the 1930s to the 1980s.

This large-scale event will highlight the viewpoint of these Arab avant-gardes on the important aesthetic and political issues they shared with Picasso: anti-academism, the link with vernacular and so-called primitive arts, pacifism or anti-colonialism.

Throughout the exhibition, the Institut du monde arabe will offer meetings and creative workshops to share the universe and history of the Arab avant-garde with all audiences on the themes of living together, political art and contemporary art.
